BCHS Leadership Return

Mentors at RMS

Every Wednesday, students from Bert Church High School come to our building and connect with some of our students to play games, craft, read, and even do science experiments! We are so lucky to have this opportunity

Survey

Our School Survey

In the upcoming weeks, the grade 4 students will be asked to participate in a survey that will provide data for our School Education Plan, and it will also provide teachers information on supporting students about their thoughts on themselves, their peers, teachers, school, and learning. This is a survey that focuses on perception.

School Announcement

Acting Assistant Principal:

While Principal Korver is away, Carla Frei has accepted the Acting Assistant Principal position. Her Grade 1 class has been left in excellent hands and we know that Mrs. Frei will be popping in often to see her students! She brings to the position a connection to the community, leadership experience, positive relationships, and a passion for education!

PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports)

Our school will be kicking off another PBIS campaign. “Watch us Soar with Respect” will be our motto for our Respect Campaign! We will teach out our 3 expectations and then recognize students who are caught demonstrating respect! The campaign will be connected to Earth Day and students will learn about respecting oneself, others, and the earth!

Acting Principal’s Message:

This week has been so wonderful seeing the students’ smiling faces back in our building and enjoying the spring weather. Although I have taken on a new role in our building, I am not new to our school, and I look forward to continuing to serve and support our community. Welcoming back our students, I learned about so many great experiences your children had during the break. From time with family, celebrations, holidays and even a new pet – connecting with students is the best part of our job as educators. I have also enjoyed the opportunities that I have had to connect with families outside during drop-off, during the day at a pick-up, the phone calls, and the face-to-face meetings. I want to encourage you to please reach out anytime and know that my priority is to ensure school is a place where your child wants to be, feels safe and supported, and is feeling successful!

With kind regards,

Sarah Morrison

Important Dates:

  • April 16th – Practice Bus Evacuation Drill
  • April 16th – School Council and Friends of RMS Meeting 6:30pm
  • April 16th – Denim Day
  • April 22nd – Earth Day (students will be outside tidying up our school grounds)

The front bus loop is for busses only. No student drop-off before 8:10 am or pick-up after 2:30pm. This continues to be a safety concern.

School Council and Friends of RMS Update:

Welcome to the home stretch!  With Easter and Eid past, your Parent Council and Friend Committee Members are starting to look to summer vacation and the next school year.  Life is pretty crazy over the next couple of months.  Here are some things to look forward to!

Council/Friends Meeting: due to scheduling conflicts our monthly meeting was postponed until April 16th.  There are a number of important topics being covered this month including:

  • Alberta School Council Association AGM:  This is held at the end of April each year.  This year, members will be attending the Sunday AGM online and participating in the votes on how we would like ASCA to advocate for schools with the provincial government.  At the meeting on April 16th, Council will be reviewing each item and deciding how we would like to vote.  As parents, you automatically have a vote on Council.  If you are interested, please take a look at the attached PDF file or follow the link  to download a copy.
  • Many of our currently serving Friends and Council members have children who are in Grades 3 and 4 this year, as a result, within the next school year, most of us will be required to step down in our roles.  We are always looking for more parents to help out.  As they say, "many hands make light work!" if you have some time, and the inclination to do so, we'd love to see you join us.

Council/Friends AGM: each year in May we hold the annual AGM for Council and Friends.  It is at this time, we make our preliminary plans for next year, as well as elect the executives for both committees.  If you're interested, take a look at the attached positions and see if any might suit you!  You can also join as a "Member at Large" of Friends, if you want to just ease your toes in and get a feeling for the group.

New Playground: Rocky View Schools has informed us that as of the end of the 2023/2024 school year, the playground at Ralph McCall School has reached the end of its time. A number of features have aged to the point of no return and will soon become safety hazards for the students.  RVS will continue to maintain the playground as best as possible until 2027, but playgrounds are not covered by Alberta Education and therefore any funds to replace the current one will need to be raised within our community.  If it is not replaced, it will need to be removed.  As fundraising of this nature is well outside the norm for Friends, we're looking for a person or group who might be willing to spearhead such a fundraiser.  If you are interested, please contact Friends at friendsofralphmcall@gmail.com.
