Welcome to the Student Success Center

The Student Success Center offers support to those children who require programming to meet their specific learning needs.  Through on-going collaboration and communication with other staff members, parents, community agencies and the students themselves, the Support Centre helps to develop appropriate goals to best support these students.  Any parents of children being assisted will have full information provided by the school and your consent will always be received prior to any programming being initiated.

Welcome! My name is Kathy Partlow.  This is my third year as the Learning Support teacher at Ralph McCall School.  Learning Support involves a group of professionals working together to meet the needs of students within our school community.  The classroom teachers, early literacy teacher, learning support assistants, child development advisor, the school administration and myself work collaboratively to develop programs to address individual learning needs of students. Ralph McCall School offers an Early Literacy program for students in Grade One and Grade Two.  The Early Literacy Teacher works in conjunction with classroom teachers to identify students who would benefit from Early Literacy Support.  These students will be pulled out of the classroom for support in literacy skills such as phonemic awareness, decoding strategies, sight vocabulary identification, reading fluency, reading comprehension and writing for several 30-minute periods per week.

Early Literacy Intervention is intended to be a brief, targeted intervention that will allow students to tackle certain challenges that are keeping them from reaching a designated level of literacy.  Students will be assessed on a regular basis upon entering and the program and enrollment will be fluid with students exiting the program when they reach certain benchmarks or remaining in the program if additional support is needed.
