Early Literacy

Ralph McCall School offers an Early Literacy program for students in Grade One and Grade Two.  The Early Literacy Teacher works in conjunction with classroom teachers to identify students who would benefit from Early Literacy Support.  These students will be pulled out of the classroom for support in literacy skills such as phonemic awareness, decoding strategies, sight vocabulary identification, reading fluency, reading comprehension and writing for several 30-minute periods per week.

Early Literacy Intervention is intended to be a brief, targeted intervention that will allow students to tackle certain challenges that are keeping them from reaching a designated level of literacy.  Students will be assessed on a regular basis upon entering and the program and enrollment will be fluid with students exiting the program when they reach certain benchmarks or remaining in the program if additional support is needed.

Heather Imorde, the Early Literacy Teacher, works alongside Joan Zeniuk, the EL assistant. If you have any questions or concerns about how to foster your students' reading development at home, please contact Miss Imorde at himorde@rockyview.ab.ca.
